At Riverside Skin clinic in Tonbridg, Dr Marcus Honarvar and his team are proud to offer the full spectrum of available FDA approved dermal fillers – class of injectables approved to temporarily improve volume in the midface, cheekbone area, nasolabial creases, lips, marionette lines, smile lines, kisser’s lines, temporal hollows and other areas of the face. As one age, it is normal to see a reduction in fullness in certain areas of the face leading to a less oval and upside-down triangle-shaped face. One often notes a more square face as a result of gravity and volume loss. Even in youth, patients are often seeking more fullness in their lips and cheekbones to slightly accentuate these areas. When done safely and properly, beautiful facial harmony and symmetry can be obtained.

What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers, or soft tissue fillers, are products made from substances such as hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxyapatite, poly-l-lactic acid, polymethyl methacrylate or collagen. These substances can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and creases, raise depressed scars, and add contour to the lips and cheeks. Fillers are long-lasting but temporary solutions that are administered in the comfort of our office. Products are selected based on each patient’s preferences and desired outcome.

Who Can Receive Dermal Fillers?

The dermal fillers that are used in our practice in Tonbridge, Kent have naturally-occurring ingredients such as hyaluronic acid. Those that have synthetic chemicals (Radiesse) have been thoroughly studied for safety and efficacy. Therefore, there is no need for allergy testing before dermal filler treatment (other than collagen) and most patients are excellent candidates for this cosmetic solution to aging and other facial concerns.

How Do Dermal Fillers Compare to Botox?

Botox and dermal fillers are all categorised as wrinkle-reducers. However, their action in dermal tissue is completely different. Botox is the wrinkle-reducer that is commonly used in the uppermost areas of the face, those that develop wrinkles as a result of facial movement. Botox is ideal for these dynamic wrinkles because its action is to bind to nerve receptors in muscle tissue to prevent the uptake of specific chemicals that cause contraction. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, adhere to water molecules in the subcutaneous tissue beneath the epidermis to plump superficial layers of the skin.

Are Dermal Fillers Permanent?

Dermal fillers are long-lasting, renewing the skin for up to two years. However, they do degrade over time. Treatment may be repeated every few months to years to soften the signs of aging.

Can Dermal Fillers Be Dissolved If I Don’t Like the Results?

If you receive filler treatment with a hyaluronic acid product, such as Juvéderm, Restylane, you may have some or all of your filler dissolved if you are not completely satisfied with your results. Treatment to dissolve hyaluronic acid dermal fillers involves injections of an enzyme called hyaluronidase.

Can I Receive Dermal Filler Injections and Botox Injections at the Same Time?

Dermal fillers and Botox treatment can and often are administered during the same clinic visit. Because each product works differently in the skin, the two can be a powerful combination to achieve beautiful, natural-looking rejuvenation.

Are There Any Side Effects to Dermal Filler Injections?

The side effects of dermal filler treatment are typically limited to mild, transient redness and swelling at injection sites. Minor bruising may also be noticed, but this is less common. Some people may notice prolonged swelling or the formation of lumps or bumps beneath their skin after a treatment. If these side effects occur, contact our skin clinic in Tonbridge, Kent. We will schedule a visit and instruct you on what to do to handle your particular situation.

Are There Any Risks to Dermal Filler Injections?

Dermal fillers are generally safe but as with any treatment, there are potential side effects. The risks include (but are not limited to): swelling, firmness, lumps, pain, redness, bruising, itching, and vascular compromise.

This occurs in less than 1% of patients in our Tonbridge-based skin clinic. Talk to your doctor about any medications you are taking as these can increase the risk of bleeding or infection. Fillers are especially safe when you choose a trained professional like Dr Marcus Honarvar to treat you.
