Botox is a cosmetic injectable treatment that enhances youthful beauty by softening, reducing, and occasionally eliminating fine lines and wrinkles due to muscle action. Counted among the three main groups of nonsurgical facial rejuvenation techniques, Botox and other modulators will “relax” muscle action to reduce wrinkles.
Botox is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments available, administered to over seven million individuals in more than 75 countries. The treatment applications for Botox are wide ranging, but as Dr. Marcus Honarvar offers his patients BOTOX injections, he typically use Botox to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles on the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes.
Botox is a neuromuscular blocking injectable drug, which basically means it stops the transmission of chemicals that tell muscles to move. When you apply Botox anti-wrinkle injection to those tiny facial muscles that cause your face to wrinkle, it allows the skin to flatten out and appear younger. As an added benefit, Botox can also stop the occurrence of migraine headaches.
The three cornerstones of nonsurgical minimal downtime approaches to facial rejuvenation are:
- RELAX– softening and smoothing lines and wrinkles by reducing the effects of muscle action with Botox Cosmetic, Dysport®, or Myobloc®
- REFILL– restoring volume to areas where soft tissue has been lost or to deeper lines and wrinkles with injectable facial fillers, including Restylane®, Juvederm®, Voluma, Belotero®, Sculptra®, Radiesse®, fat grafting, and others
- RESURFACE– improving tone and texture of skin, and resurfacing with laser and light modalities, chemical peel, or dermabrasion
Botox Cosmetic For Facial Rejuvenation
- Glabellar wrinkles– the vertical lines, often called the “11s” netween the brows
- Forehead wrinkles– the transverse lines of the forehead that result from eyebrow elevation
- Crow’s feet– the fine lines at the corners of the eyes
- Bunny lines– the lines at the bridge of the nose
- Vertical lip lines– the wrinkles above and below the lips
- Corner droop– the slight descent or frown of the corners of the mouth
- Platysmal bands– the muscle bands of the neck
Botox For Migraine Headaches
In patients who were treated with Botox for wrinkles of the forehead and face due to muscle action, in those who coincidentally previously suffered from migraine headaches, a large number experienced a reduction or complete resolution in migraine headaches. Botox for migraines is now an FDA-approved indication for the treatment of headaches.
Hyperhidrosis – Botox For Sweating
While the effects of Botox on lines and wrinkles has been well known, another effect noted initially in regions that were treated with Botox was a reduction in sweat production. This has led to treatments of other areas where excess sweating can be problematic. Treatment of the underarms, palms, and feet with Botox can dramatically reduce or completely stop sweating for the duration of Botox action in the treated area, which may last for approximately six months.
The following is a list of frequently asked questions about Botox from patients at our Tonbridge Skin clinic. If you still have questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to contact us.
How Much Does Botox Cost?
At Riverside skin clinic in Tonbridge, Kent, the costs of our Botox injections is £190 for one area, £230 for two areas and £250 for three areas.
For safety reasons, beware of unqualified physicians that charge less than average. Also when considering cost, keep in mind that if you receive regular Botox treatments, you eventually will need 3-4 treatments per year to keep up your refreshed appearance. Some patients require less Botox as time goes on and thereby the costs are slightly less from year to year.

What Is Botox?
Botox cosmetic is a purified protein, commonly called botulinum toxin type A. the effects of Botox were first studied in the 1960s. In 1989, the FDA gave clearance for botulinum type A to treat muscle spasms. FDA clearance for cosmetic use was granted in 2002 and millions of patients have been treated since then.
Does Botox Injection Hurt?
Our patients say the treatment feels no worse than an insect bite. While we typically do not administer anaesthesia for Botox treatment, a numbing cream can be applied to the area in certain cases.
How Long Do Results Last?
The cosmetic improvements you can achieve with Botox will take effect approximately 3-5 days after the procedure and last anywhere from 3-6 months.
Can We Combine Botox With Other Procedures?
It’s not uncommon to use Botox in combination with a dermal filler such as Juvederm. People have referred to such combination treatments as a “liquid facelift.”
Side Effects
Botox complications have most often been associated with non-cosmetic treatments and unqualified practitioners. Possible side effects include headache, nausea, flu-like symptoms, redness or pain at the injection site, and droopy eyelids.
Botox Cosmetic treatment relaxes muscle action to diminish wrinkles, and is used primarily for the treatment of glabellar lines – the “11’s” of the forehead, between the brows, transverse forehead wrinkles, and crow’s feet -the fine wrinkles at the corners of the eyes.
